Tamara Kurmanalieva, MD of Restoration Healthcare, Inc., is a Board-Certified Family Physician and Diplomate & Fellow of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Regenerative and Functional Medicine. Dr. Kurmanalieva, who is known to her patients as “Dr. Tamara,” began her career in medicine as an internist and cardiologist in the former Soviet state of Kyrgyz Republic in the early 1980s.
This was well before she discovered that — in her words — “functional medicine is actually true medicine.” Shortly after arriving in the United States, while learning a new language and a new culture and getting licensed to practice here, she became severely ill. As a result of some incompetent dental work, she ended up with pain that enveloped her entire body. Dr. Kurmanalieva could barely tolerate even a light touch, and she experienced severe fatigue, insomnia, headaches, weight gain, sugar cravings, and more.
Her condition became so intolerable that she could no longer practice medicine, which was heartbreaking after all the work she did to become licensed to practice in the U.S. But instead of giving up, Dr. Kurmanalieva began researching her own physical symptoms and researched possible treatments for those symptoms.
That’s when she learned about the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M), and that’s when she began her road to recovery. Everything she learned she applied to herself and her family. As a result, she was able to heal herself and others in her close family circle.
Dr. Kurmanalieva began offering new therapies to her patients and she reported seeing consistently positive results. Patients who followed her guidance experienced significant improvement — not only in their health and quality of life but in their relationships at home, at work, and in other social circles. She said her greatest reward is when patients return to thank her for giving them their lives back, or giving them back their spouse or their child, offering them a second chance to live a healthy life.
Dr. Kurmanalieva is now happy to be practicing functional medicine at Restoration Healthcare, where she is uniquely qualified to develop personalized treatment plans for patients and team up with them to restore optimal health. She is a Board-Certified Family Physician, a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, a Diplomate and Fellow of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Regenerative and Functional Medicine, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine.
She is also a Member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Californian Family Physician Assoc., the Orange County Medical Assoc., the American Academy of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine; an Affiliate with the Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Irvine and Newport Beach; and an Alumni of the Stanislaus Family Medicine Residency Program.
When she is not consulting with patients and conducting research, Dr. Kurmanalieva loves to engage in a variety of outdoor activities. In addition, she enjoys traveling, cooking, baking, listening to classical music, and reading.
