Osteopathic medicine is a form of medical practice that uses a holistic approach in conjunction with modern medicine practices — among which include prescription drugs, surgery and advancements in medical technology.
Osteopathic physicians — or “Dos” like our own Dr. Sunny Raleigh, DO — treat the “whole patient” and not just the symptoms. DOs like Dr. Raleigh believe in the body’s innate ability to heal itself, so they look at how your lifestyle and community may be affecting your overall health. Because of this, osteopathic physicians focus on preventing disease, rather than just fighting illness.
Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment at Restoration Healthcare
Osteopathic manipulative treatment, or OMT, is what we use here at Restoration Healthcare to move your muscles and joints using various stretching, pressure and resistance techniques. This hands-on approach is a more “back to the basics: approach to discovery and offering healing solutions.
While OMT is used most often to treat muscle pain, it can also help patients with a variety of other health-related issues.
In other situations, OMT may be used in correlation or as a replacement for drugs and/or surgery.
